Sep 24, 2025. Just as we finish the season it's time to start planning for next year. Already there are nearly 10 events confirmed for 2026 with another 7 almost certain to go ahead. With the success of several new events, we can hope that they will become part of the regular fixture list. The number of itinerant racers grew this year and at a couple events outnumbered the local drivers. Overall the amount of people wanting compete seems as high as ever and many events were oversubscribed with entries. All in all, 2025 was a healthy year and 2026 is looking to be, at the least, as good.
In recent times the UK has seen more than 40 soapbox events staged annually in every region of Britain. It's a sport that appeals to all, whether young or old, man or woman, girl or boy. Somehow it manages to put a smile on the face of everyone who engages with the activity in whatever capacity: competitor, organisers or just spectator. It's a great way to earn money for charities and good causes. Several regular races have now raised over £100,000 each for their chosen very appreciative charities.
There will be a race local to most people but it's not a national sport. There are no agreed common rules regarding construction or running a race, no standards for safety, not even a fixture list (until now). All of which makes it difficult for a newcomer to get started. So the aim of the following pages is to help demystify the sometimes arcane nature of soapbox racing and encourage more people to engage with a family friendly fun weekend activity. Who knows, if you pay attention, you may even win a bit of silverware!
